Garrya elliptica - silk tassel tree (or 'snot bush' we used to call it!!)

Winter has it's own special place at Dursley. Whilst many of the trees are bare, the ground underneath springs to life with thousands of bulbs, with the earliest daffodils flowering from July. Under the trees grape hyacinths, snowdrops, and bluebells have naturalised, creating colour amongst the carpet of cyclamen leaves. Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Camellias feature through the coldest months, as do the fragrant flowers on the many deciduous shrubs. Trilliums and Hellebores abound around the garden, as well. Like the Head Gardener - nothing ever sits still around here!
